Export diversification in Latin America

The traditional economic model based on the exportation of raw materials is coming to an end in Latin America due to the overdependence on the international market situation and the price fluctuations.

Against this background it is necessary to implement a new model that provides added value via innovation and product diversification. It is not about renouncing to the international market, but being more competitive within it. This will require investment in human capital (education) and in infrastructure.

This report addresses the main challenges faced by Latin American markets and establishes some guidelines on how the Region could modernize.
