The Second Term challenges for Juan Manuel Santos in Colombia

On August 7, Juan Manuel Santos Calderón will begin his second term as President of Colombia. Santos’s reelection was strongly influenced by the effective alliances with other Colombian political parties, which gave him enough support to defeat his opponent, Oscar Iván Zuluaga.

The expectation now shifts to the opposition that the Centro Democrático party will now carry out in Congress, led by former President and senator-elect Álvaro Uribe Vélez against the Government of Unidad Nacional, as well as the way in which the latter will manage the previously formed alliances.

This report elaborated by the team of LLORENTE & CUENCA in Colombia covers the main social and economic challenges that the government of Juan Manuel Santos will need to tackle in his second term as well as the challenges in relation to the peace that Colombians have long sought; the great commitment of this Government and, probably, the main reason for which the Population voted for this Administration.
